Let us not forget

I am deeply saddened by the death of the girl who was gang raped in Delhi and the reactions it has brought about which were quite needed. I am glad that this incident brought focus to issues that really matter. At the end of the day certain truths remain:

  1. I do not have a nice opinion of the Indian government or politicians at all and their current actions do nothing to change it. I am glad this issue has come under everybody’s radar which forces people to take action.
  2. Indian culture and society at present is a deeply women hating culture. We may hate to varying degrees but we hate women all the same.
  3. Violence is deeply entrenched in our culture- in our speech, our psyche, our daily lives. We treat it as normal.
  4. Sexual abuse is not restricted to women alone – it spreads to children, men, transgenders everyone.

  1. Most people I know are not celebrating the new year this year – I hope this sadness leads to a continued efforts to demand changes that make it difficult for rapists to feel so fearless in this culture and country.
