The Bus Journey

A short story based on a real life incident.

He was dark skinned.

He was waiting for a bus.

The Bus came.

He got in and took an empty seat.

The bus got full.

Students were jostling for space.

There was an empty seat next to him.

Nobody wanted to sit in there.

It was awkward but they all maintained their expressionless faces.

Nobody made a move to occupy the seat like it was some unwritten social rule.

A   brave white girl sat there.

They looked relieved.

The bus started moving.

He still remained dark.

The girl still remained the same.

Why the prejudice?
